2018 Reunion Hike Walk Details2

"2018 Reunion Hike Thursday Details"

Thursday 19th April Beinn Each (813 m) and Stùc a’ Chroin(975 m)

Distance 16 km (10 miles) Ascent 1140 m Time 8 hours Start point Ardchullarie More on Loch Lubnaig (NN 583 137)

Terrain Mostly on rough paths ending up on a well surfaced track. Route Begin the walk up the track on the south side of the burn, marked as a public right of way to Loch Earn via Glen Ample. Keep left of the double garage, pass through an iron gate and follow the path that fords a small burn and then climbs steeply through a forestry plantation. Turn left when the path meets a forestry track. Continue on the track, which passes through a gate at the edge of the trees, till it crosses the burn at Eas an Eoin (NN 590150) where a signpost reading ‘hill path’ marks our route. After a steep climb the gradient eases near a large boulder. Steep slopes are crossed then after a flatter bit and then more climbing a line of fence posts is met which should be followed to the summit of Beinn Each. At this point it is possible to shorten the route dramatically by descending the SE ridge. However, the plan is to follow the lumpy bumpy ridge past Bealach nan Cabar and Bealach Glas to the summit of Stuc a' Chroin. Its SE ridge is then followed down to the col between Stiol nan Tarbh and Meall na h-Iolaire (NN 637 157). From here a path, not marked on all maps, descends to the old cottage of Arivurichardich. A recent hydropower project has upgraded the track from here, including a new bridge over the Keltie Water to replace one that was washed away. From Arivurichgardich it is less than 3 km to the car park at Braeleny.
